Drone photogrammetry software can output different files in various file formats. This article describes the formats you can import into Virtual Surveyor. This article also describes common vector formats that can be imported and combined with your drone data in Virtual Surveyor.

Orthomosaic and Topomap Raster Formats

The following file formats are supported for orthomosaic and topographic maps:

  • GeoTIFF
  • .jp2
  • .ecw
  • .tif/.tiff +.tfw
  • .jpg + .jgw
  • .png +.pgw
  • .img

Note: .tfw, .jgw & .pgw are world files. They include geo-referencing information but do not include information about the coordinate system, which is typically unknown with these file formats.

DSM Raster Formats

The following file formats are supported for Digital Surface Models (DSM) and Digital Terrain Models (DTM):

  • GeoTIFF
  • .tif/.tiff +.tfw
  • .img

Point Cloud Formats

  • .las
  • .laz

Note: Point cloud files are converted to raster elevation models. You can select the point cloud classes you want to include in the conversion. Read more about how to Import and Convert Point Clouds.

Vector Formats

The following file formats are supported for vector formats:

  • .dxf
  • .shp
  • .xml (LandXML)
  • .txt
  • .csv
