The Layers Panel (Project View) helps you structure your project in layers and controls the visibility of your Project Data in the Viewport. Layers and Project Data are automatically sorted alphabetically. This article explains how to customize the Layers Panel and shows you how it works.

Overview

Structure Your Project

A right-click in the Layers panel provides you with access to various contextual menus that help you maintain and build the project structure. The type of menu you see depends on what data you click on.

Visibility of Project Data

You can control the visibility of Project Data through its check box.

  • When ticking or unticking a layer, all data in the layer is turned on or off.
  • When you untick a layer, all project data in that layer is no longer visible in the Viewport.
    • Hidden data is not included when you export the survey to a CAD file, generate a PDF stockpile report, or perform other operations.

Collapse Layers

You can collapse layers to get a better overview of your layer structure, or you can expand layers to get access to the individual items of your project data.

Selecting Project Data

Use the Project View to select the project data you need to work with. You can select one piece of data at a time, choose multiple pieces of data to select, or select all the data in a layer at once.

  • Click on data in the Layers panel to select it.
  • Selecting a layer selects all data in that particular layer.
  • Hold Ctrl to select data one-at-a-time, or hold Shift to select a range of data all at once.
  • When you have project data selected, you can rename them all at once, provide them with a sequential number through the Structure group in the Home tab, or Pin them so they are visible throughout the Timeline

Pin Project Data

Pin project data in the Layers panel to apply and keep the data visible across all Timesteps in the Timeline.

Note: The Pin option only becomes available when you have created more than one Timestep.

  • Pin project data by selecting them individually.
  • Select all project data in a layer and pin them all simultaneously.

Empty Layers

Empty layers are hidden by default.

  • Use Show Empty to display all available layers in your project.
  • You can use Hide Empty to automatically hide the layers again that don't contain any project data.
  • You can also delete all empty layers using right-click menu options in the empty areas of the Layers panel.

Tips and Tricks

  • Double-click on data in the layers panel to fly to its location in the Viewport.
  • You can avoid having to create the same layers for every new project by working with Project Templates.
  • The layer structure of your project is the same for all your Timesteps.
