Settings allow you to set preferred Project, User, and Device settings for working in VirtualSurveyor. You can access these settings in the Backstage View (File > Settings and File > Project Settings).
Project - settings that are stored with your .vspx project file. These settings are independent from the User and Device settings and travel with the project, applying to you or any colleague who opens the project on any device.
User - settings that are stored with your Virtual Surveyor ID in the cloud; these settings follow you on any device you work from.
Device - settings that are only related to the local device/computer you are working from.
Overview
Project Settings
Project Name
This setting changes the Project Name that appears on exported PDF stockpile reports.
Display Units
This setting controls the unit system used to display coordinates, lengths, areas, and volumes throughout the application:
- Metric
- Imperial (United States)
- Imperial (International)
Initially, the display units match the units of the coordinate system.
Volume Unit
This setting changes the volume units for imperial measurements to:
- cubic feet (m³), or
- cubic yards (yd³).
This setting only appears when the display units are set to an imperial system.
Slope Unit
This setting determines how slopes are displayed in the application.
- By percentages or degrees.

User Settings
General
(Language settings are also available in the TerrainCreator app)
General settings allow you to change language preferences and which export folder you want to use with your projects:
Language
This setting gives you the option to choose between 9 supported languages in the VirtualSurveyor and TerrainCreator apps. Supported languages include:
- Deutsch, English, Español, Français, Português, Türkçe, русский, 한국어, and 中文(简体)
Export Folder
- Last used folder
- This setting will open the last folder location you used to export your survey, profiles, stockpiles, cut/fill, etc.
- Project folder
- This setting will open the folder that your project's .vspx file is saved in when exporting your survey, profiles, stockpiles, cut/fill, etc.

Local Coordinate Systems
(The Local Coordinate System setting is only available in the TerrainCreator app)
This feature allows you to create, import, export, view, and delete local coordinate systems to use and view on your drone datasets.
Available functions for Local Coordinate Systems:
Create New and Import
These buttons allow you to Create a new local coordinate system or Import one from a .vscs file.

View
This allows you to select a local coordinate system to view its data. Note: you cannot change a local coordinate system once it has been created.

Export and Delete
These buttons export created local coordinate systems as .vscs files and delete local coordinate systems that are no longer needed. Important: Deleting a local coordinate system can’t be undone—if you delete one and need it later, you’ll have to recreate it.

Note: You can use this file to exchange local coordinate systems with other Virtual Surveyor software users.
Templates
This setting allows you to rename or delete your layer and material templates. Read our Project Templates article to learn more.

Company Logo
This saves a company logo to your user settings, which will make it appear on your exported stockpile PDF reports.
Edit button functions:
- Change Logo
- This button allows you to update the company logo or change how it appears on PDF stockpile reports.
- Remove Logo
- This button will remove the logo from appearing on PDF stockpile reports.
The following image formats are supported:
- .jpg or .jpeg, .png, .gif, .bmp, and .tif or .tiff.
Device Settings
(All Device settings are also available in the TerrainCreator app)
Graphics
VirtualSurveyor will automatically recognize and use the highest performing GPU on your device. The used card is shown in the Active Graphic Card field.
You can use the slider to emphasize whether you want to optimize the software for better performance (which lessens graphical quality) or to have better graphics (impacts your computer's performance) or just give it a balanced setting.
Proxy
VirtualSurveyor uses the system settings by default. If you use an http proxy, all fields are required. Please note however, that the Username and Password fields need to be empty when:
- no credentials are required by the proxy, or
- the proxy requires the Windows credentials of the user.
If you are having problems with authenticating and licensing, your company IT can typically set up Whitelisting, Firewalls, and Proxy Servers for VirtualSurveyor to properly run in an IT secured environment.

Temporary Folder
The Temporary Folder is where VirtualSurveyor and TerrainCreator software store short-term working files (like intermediate processing data and cached content) while a project is open, which can help with computer performance.
- This setting is typically left unchanged and is only adjusted when storage issues occur.
