When a Boundary is selected the TOOLS menu becomes available. The TOOLS menu contains tools that allow you to edit, change styling, annotate, or perform advanced functions on your Boundary. There are also tools for volumetric work and terrain offset.

|Select Within||All Survey (Point, Polyline, Boundary, Surface), and Measurement items inside the highlighted boundary are selected.|
|Line||Allows you to change the Boundary line color.|
|Thickness||Allows you to change the Boundary line thickness.|
|Name||Boundary Descriptor & Number displayed over the Boundary in the Viewport.|
|-||2D Area||2D area of the boundary is displayed over the Boundary in the Viewport.|
|Label||Allows you to change the Boundary Label color.|
|Size||Allows you to change the Boundary Label size.|
|Edit Vertex||Enables you to edit a selected boundary and its vertices. Displays the Edit Vertex Mode box where you can select editing options and move individual vertices X,Y,Z coordinates.|
|To Terrain||Selected Boundary is draped to the underlying Elevation terrain by changing the Z value of the vertices to the same elevation as the Z level of the terrain at their XY location.|
|Split||Enables Split mode. The Boundary can now be split into Polyline items that can then be reassembled to your needs. Left-click at the start and ending locations along the Boundary where you would like to split the boundary. Two Split locations must be chosen to split a Boundary. If only one is chosen, the boundary adds a vertex that is used as the first input if the Split mode is used again.|
|Densify||Selected Boundary becomes more complex by adding vertices to it that drape the Boundary to the underlying terrain. Densify has 3 methods of adding vertices: Break Points, Regular, and Low-pass.|
Break Points - adds vertices by elevation change along the Boundary.
Regular - adds vertices at a specified interval.
Low-pass - adds vertices at the lowest elevations along the Boundary.
All created vertices drape onto the underlying terrain.
|Simplify||Selected Polyline(s) or Boundary(s) become less complex by removing vertices along the line while preserving the geometric representation of the line or boundary. Simplify has 2 methods for removing vertices:|
2D method - used for contour lines.
3D method - used for polylines and boundary project items.
Be sure to select the proper method when simplifying the line in order to keep the intended shape of your polyline/boundary on the terrain.
|Offset Line||Creates concentric boundary items to the selected Boundary. A Z Offset can also be applied via the dialog box. Left-click in the Viewport determines the offset distance.|
|Extract Points||Creates Point items at every vertex of the selected Boundary.|
|Triangulate Within||Creates a Surface item utilizing all active survey items within the selected Boundary.|
|Water||Creates a Water item within the selected Boundary that has its water level set to the highest vertex of the Boundary.|
|Cut/Fill||Creates a Cut/Fill map within the selected Boundary between the current Terrain State and a reference surface selected in the Reference Type box. The Reference Type option allows you to choose your comparison surface: a 3D surface, Flat, Flat Minimum, or Terrain State.|
When used, the tool creates a Cut/Fill item. A visual representation of the Cut and Fill is also displayed in the Viewport, with brighter colors representing Cuts, and cool colors representing fills.
|Stockpile||Creates a Stockpile within the selected Boundary. The boundary you create at the base creates a 3D surface that models the ground underneath the pile. When the project contains multiple Terrain States, you can set one Terrain State as a primary reference surface in the Reference Type box. You can also assign a material type to the stockpile via the Material Editor.|
The Stockpile item offers a few benefits. You can export the Stockpile to a CSV or Shapefile that you can use in other software. You can also export it directly from Virtual Surveyor as a PDF report that displays information such as the Net Volume, Material, and Tonnage. A visual representation of the Stockpile is also displayed in the Viewport, with colors related to the material type from the Material Editor table..
|Material Editor||Launches the Material Editor where you can set your stockpile material types.|
|Offset Within||Shifts the Elevation terrain's Z value within the selected Boundary according to the amount entered into the Offset Z. The direction of the Z value shift can be positive or negative.|
